Atlanta Legal Aid Society (“Legal Aid”) seeks a Staff Attorney for its Eviction Prevention Initiative (“EPI”). EPI, a partnership between Legal Aid and the Department of Community Affairs, provides support services to tenants in need of housing or utility assistance.
Responsibilities: The Staff Attorney provides advice and brief service, works with EPI Navigators to complete rental assistance applications, negotiates settlements with landlords and landlords’ attorneys, and may provide limited representation in court appearances.
Qualifications: A Georgia bar license or provisional bar license is required. Applicants must have a strong work ethic; excellent mathematical, analytical, advocacy, and writing skills; good communication and listening skills; the ability to work in a team and alone; adaptability; the ability to balance compassion and pragmatism; and an appreciation of diversity. Experience or a demonstrated interest in working with low-income people and familiarity with landlord/tenant law are preferred. Proficiency in languages other than English is highly valued.
Salary and Benefits: This is a grant-funded position expected to continue through September 2025. The salary is $55,000+ depending on experience. Salaries increase annually based on a salary scale. The program provides generous fringe benefits including 13 paid holidays, 6 weeks paid time off, 6 weeks parental leave; health, life, and long and short-term disability insurance; partial payment for dependent health insurance; a salary reduction option for a flexible spending account; educational loan reimbursement up to $600 per month (after a $65 per month deductible and set off of other loan reimbursement amounts); voluntary tax-sheltered annuity with 3% match; and Georgia Bar and CLE expenses. This position is fully remote with the exception of orientation, training and court appearances.
