Senior Citizens Law Project Paralegal/Administrative Assistant

Atlanta Legal Aid Society (“Legal Aid”) seeks a paralegal for its Senior Citizens Law Project (“SCLP”) located
in Downtown Atlanta. The Senior Citizens Law Project provides advice and representation to seniors age 60
and over in a variety of legal matters including benefits (income and healthcare) probate, home defense and
preservation, the rights of nursing home and personal care home residents, and elder abuse/neglect and financial
exploitation. SCLP is comprised of a managing attorney, three attorneys, and one paralegal.

Responsibilities: The Paralegal/Legal Assistant is responsible for case intake/management including answering
the phone, conducting initial client intakes and interviews, gathering documentation, providing clients with
information and advice under the supervision of an attorney, drafting pleadings and correspondences, notarizing
documents, document review and organization; data management including entering data into and retrieving
data from our client database; file management including scanning documents to our client database, filing, and
archiving closed cases; preparing reports; and other general office tasks.

Qualifications:  A paralegal certificate or degree is preferred, but not required. Candidates must possess
excellent oral and written communication skills; strong organizational skills, excellent computer skills
(Microsoft Office and Google Workspace). Candidates must be industrious, dependable, adaptable, detail-
oriented, able to see a task through to completion, able to work in a team and alone, have experience or a
demonstrated interest in working with low-income persons and an appreciation of diversity. Previous
experience with program administration, law office management software, senior citizens and home defense
law; proficiency in Spanish and a willingness to improve language skills are highly valued.

Salary and Benefits: The salary is $34,500+ depending on experience. The program provides generous fringe
benefits, including paid holidays, paid time off including parental leave; health, life, and long and short-term
disability insurance; partial payment for dependent health insurance; a salary reduction option for a flexible
spending account; educational loan reimbursement up to $600 per month (after a $65 per month deductible and
set off of other loan reimbursement amounts); and a voluntary tax-sheltered annuity with 3% match. Legal Aid
also offers a hybrid work schedule that allows staff to work 2 days remotely subject to management approval
and a probationary employment period.
