Bequests

The most common planned gifts are bequests, effected through a provision in the will or a codicil to the will, making Atlanta Legal Aid Society the beneficiary of a specific, general, residuary or contingent gift from the estate. The donor may wish to assign a percentage of a qualified retirement plan in the estate to Atlanta Legal Aid, which is done through notification to the plan administrator. This sample codicil is provided for your convenience.

IRA Rollover

Under a provision familiarly known as the IRA Rollover, donors age 70 1/2 and over may make outright gifts up to $100,000 during a calendar year to eligible charitable organizations directly from retirement plans without incurring income tax liability. Donors should contact their advisors and notify their plan administrator.

Contact Us

To notify the Atlanta Legal Aid Society of a gift or to discuss making a gift, please contact: Angie Tacker at [email protected] or 404-614-3922.

All gifts should be planned in consultation with financial, legal and/or accounting advisors. These advisors may recommend other types of deferred gifts such as gifts in trust or gifts of insurance. Atlanta Legal Aid is ready to work with donors and their advisors to facilitate such gifts.

WHY I GIVE

Trust in our judicial system is vital to our system of laws. Atlanta Legal Aid plays a critical role in ensuring that our judicial system is accessible to all, not just to those with the means to bear the expense of counsel. By providing legal assistance to low income citizens, Atlanta Legal Aid protects the trust in fairness that is essential to the effectiveness of our courts and allows our courts to impartially and efficiently resolve disputes and enforce the laws we all rely on.
