Fulton County Managing Attorney

Atlanta Legal Aid Society (“Legal Aid”) seeks a Managing Attorney for its Fulton County Office. Our non-profit law firm represents low-income persons in a variety of legal matters, including family, housing, consumer, employment, health, public benefits, and education law. In addition to direct client services, the office facilitates the Fulton County Family Law Information Center. The office is located at our headquarters in downtown Atlanta, close to the Fulton County Courthouse.  The Fulton County office is a merged office of two previously separate units, the General Law Unit and the Domestic Relations Unit.  The staff consists of six attorneys and three paralegals.  Depending upon the case volume, the number of attorneys may increase.  

Responsibilities: 

  • Overall management, quality, and efficacy of the office
  • Direct supervision of staff
  • Conducting staff meetings, administering performance reviews, and cultivating an environment for professional development and growth
  • Conducting regular one-on-one meetings, providing constructive feedback, and mentoring junior staff
  • Working closely with Legal Aid’s management team to coordinate client services 
  • Serving as a point of escalation for complex cases, client issues, or internal conflicts
  • Serving as a primary representative of Legal Aid in the Fulton County community, maintaining relations with the local bar and bench, government, community organizations, and funding sources 
  • Handling an active caseload, although lower than that of the staff attorneys

Qualifications: 

  • Active member in good standing in the State Bar of Georgia (preferred, or active membership in another state bar and eligibility to sit for the next Georgia Bar exam
  • Minimum of seven years of experience litigating in various legal forums 
  • Experience managing staff, including supervising and mentoring attorneys 
  • Excellent legal writing and oral advocacy skills 
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to use sound judgement to resolve issues effectively and fairly
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative, hybrid team model, with an appreciation for diversity
  • Previous experience working with low-income persons and knowledge of the program’s core civil practice areas are preferred
  • Proficiency in languages other than English is highly value

Salary and Benefits: 

  • The salary offered for this position is up to $100,000, contingent upon the candidate’s experience and bar admission status. Salaries are reviewed and adjusted annually, depending on funding.
  • Generous fringe benefits, including 18 paid holidays in 2025, 6 weeks of paid time off (accruing at 2.5 days per month) in the first two years, and 6 weeks of parental leave (12 weeks after one year)

  • Educational loan reimbursement up to $600 per month (after a set off of other loan reimbursement amounts;

  • Hybrid work schedule that allows staff to work 2 days remotely, subject to the approval of management and a probationary employment period.  Managing attorneys are expected to have a greater presence in the office.
