Atlanta Legal Aid Society (“Legal Aid”) seeks a Pro Bono Coordinating Attorney to oversee and expand our housing, family, and name change pro bono programs. The position will also support one of our neighborhood offices in Clayton, DeKalb, Gwinnett, and/or our remote centralized intake unit. Our non-profit law firm represents low-income people in a variety of civil legal matters, including family, housing, consumer, public benefits, education, and health law. The growing Pro Bono team is firm-wide, engaging volunteers throughout our five-county service area to serve our clients through a wide variety of projects, clinics, and case referrals.
Responsibilities:
- Overseeing the vision, development, and delivery of legal services for the pro bono housing, family, and name change programs, ensuring that staff and volunteers are providing excellent legal services
- Managing a range of service delivery models, such as clinics (in person and virtual) and direct case referrals to volunteers, and monitoring case files and compliance
- Recruiting, training, and providing support to volunteer attorneys, law students, and other legal professionals
- Actively participating in local, affinity, and bar associations and other professional associations to network with and recruit volunteers
- Presenting to law firms, corporate law departments, and bar and professional associations regarding our organization, the client communities we serve, their legal needs, and available pro bono opportunities
- Overseeing a caseload of pro bono legal work with occasional direct representation
- In collaboration with the pro bono team and Legal Aid staff, identifying and expanding pro bono offerings
- Supervising one or more paralegals and support staff
- Ensuring ongoing compliance with various grant requirements and contributing to grant applications and reports, including tracking data and preparing volunteer highlights
- Occasional travel within our five-county service area (Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Fulton, and Gwinnett)
- Other tasks as assigned
Qualifications:
- Active member in good standing in the State Bar of Georgia with at least 3 years of experience as a practicing attorney
- Experience in family and/or housing law
- Strong commitment to serve marginalized communities, including LGBTQ+ individuals
- Strong work ethic and adaptability
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and listening skills
- Ability to advocate for the program’s mission and cultivate professional relationships with pro bono volunteers and community partners
- Strong project management skills, including organization and the ability to multitask
- Ability to lead and collaborate with a broad range of stakeholders
- Ability to work independently and in a collaborative, hybrid team model
- Eager to learn and open to actionable feedback
- Demonstrated commitment to public service, participation in law school clinics or trial advocacy courses, familiarity with poverty law, and previous work with low-income people are strongly preferred
Salary and Benefits:
- The salary is $63,750 for an attorney with 3 years of experience and may be higher depending on relevant legal experience. Salaries are reviewed and adjusted annually, depending on funding.
