The office is located in downtown Marietta, within walking distance of the courthouse. The staff is comprised of a managing attorney, 7 full-time attorneys, 2 part-time attorneys, and 6 support staff members.

Responsibilities: Staff Attorneys handle a mixed caseload (family, housing, consumer, employment, health, public benefits, and education law) using a variety of methods (full representation, brief service, advice and referral, transactional work, negotiation, and mediation). A significant amount of the work involves litigation. Attorneys also staff an Eviction Clinic at the courthouse, provide community education, and are encouraged to participate in local bar associations and social service organizations.

Applicants must possess excellent legal writing and oral advocacy skills, good communication and listening skills, a strong work ethic, the ability to work in a team and alone, be adaptable, and have an appreciation of diversity. The ability to balance compassion and pragmatism is necessary. A demonstrated commitment to public service, participation in law school clinics, trial advocacy courses, familiarity with areas of poverty law, and previous work with low-income people, are strongly preferred. Fluency in Spanish is highly valued.

Salary and Benefits: The salary is $55,000+ depending on experience. The program provides generous fringe benefits, including paid holidays, paid time off including parental leave; health, life, and long and short-term disability insurance; partial payment for dependent health insurance; a salary reduction option for a flexible spending account; educational loan reimbursement up to $600 per month (after a $65 per month deductible and set off of other loan reimbursement amounts); voluntary tax-sheltered annuity with 3% match; Georgia Bar dues and CLE expenses. Legal Aid offers a hybrid work schedule that allows staff to work 2 days remotely subject to management approval and a probationary employment period.
