Paralegal Pro Bono Unit

Atlanta Legal Aid Society (“Legal Aid”) seeks a Paralegal for its Pro Bono Unit located in Downtown Atlanta. Our nonprofit represents low-income persons in a variety of civil legal matters. The Pro Bono Unit plans, develops, manages, coordinates and supports pro bono projects that span Legal Aid’s five-county service area. The Unit is comprised of a managing attorney, a staff attorney, and two paralegals.

Responsibilities: The paralegal will coordinate and support new projects; identify staff and volunteer needs; lead staff and volunteer testing efforts and feedback; and perform other tasks as needed.

Qualifications:  A degree or certificate in paralegal studies is preferred but not required. Candidates must possess excellent writing, communication, listening, and interpersonal skills; be patient, resourceful, and adaptable; be able to work in a team and with a diverse population; be proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace, and have the willingness to learn other software. Prior experience working with low-income persons is highly preferred. Proficiency in Spanish and a willingness to improve language skills are highly valued.

Salary and Benefits: The salary is $34,500+ depending on experience. The program provides generous fringe benefits, including paid holidays, paid time off including parental leave; health, life, and long and short-term disability insurance; partial payment for dependent health insurance; a salary reduction option for a flexible spending account; educational loan reimbursement up to $600 per month (after a $65 per month deductible and set off of other loan reimbursement amounts); voluntary tax-sheltered annuity with 3% match. Legal Aid offers a hybrid work schedule that allows staff to work 2 days remotely subject to management approval and a probationary employment period.
