Atlanta Legal Aid Society (“Legal Aid”) seeks a Paralegal/Administrative Assistant for its General Law Unit located in downtown Atlanta. Our non-profit law firm represents low-income people in a variety of civil legal matters including family, housing, consumer, public benefits, education and health law. The General Law Unit provides advice and representation in the areas of housing, consumer, public benefits, education and health law; and operates the Fulton County Tenant Hotline. The General Law Unit staff currently consists of a managing attorney, 3 staff attorneys, 2 paralegals, and 1 part-time support staff.
Responsibilities: The Paralegal/Administrative Assistant is responsible for case intake/management including answering the phone, conducting initial client intakes and interviews, gathering documentation, document review and organization, providing clients with information and advice under the supervision of an attorney, drafting correspondences, and notarizing documents; data management including entering data into and retrieving data from our client database; file management including scanning documents to our client database, filing documents, and archiving closed cases; preparing reports; and other general office tasks.
Qualifications: A paralegal certificate or degree is preferred, but not required. Applicants must possess excellent oral and written communication skills; strong organizational skills; and excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office and Google Workspace). Applicants must be industrious, dependable, adaptable, detail-oriented, able to see a task through to completion, able to work in a team and alone, have experience or a demonstrated interest in working with low-income people, and have an appreciation of diversity. Previous experience with program administration, law office management software, and working with the public is vital. Proficiency in languages other than English is highly valued.
Salary and Benefits: The salary is $34,500+ depending upon experience. Salaries increase annually based on a salary scale. The program provides generous fringe benefits including 13 paid holidays, 6 weeks paid time off, 6 weeks parental leave; health, life, and long and short-term disability insurance; partial payment for dependent health insurance; a salary reduction option for a flexible spending account; educational loan reimbursement up to $600 per month (after a set off of other loan reimbursement amounts); and voluntary tax-sheltered annuity with 3% match. Legal Aid offers a hybrid work schedule that allows staff to work remotely 2 days a week subject to management approval and a probationary employment period.
