Celebrating Black History Month: Michelle Jordan’s Dedication to Family Law and Justice

In honor of Black History Month, we want to highlight some of our diverse and remarkable staff, including Michelle Jordan, Managing Attorney of Atlanta Legal Aid’s Fulton Family Law Unit. Michelle’s leadership and dedication have made a lasting impact on vulnerable families. Raised in Atlanta, Michelle earned a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania and a J.D. from Emory University. After working at a business litigation firm, Michelle transitioned to family law at the Georgia Law Center for the Homeless, where she found her passion for serving low-income families.
In 2005, Michelle became the Managing Attorney of the Fulton Family Law Unit, where she has worked for 20 years. Michelle’s daily responsibilities include managing cases, supervising staff, and providing legal advice in matters such as custody, child support, and domestic violence. Her team focuses on addressing the root causes of family instability, such as financial insecurity and safety concerns, through compassionate and holistic advocacy.
Michelle has led many impactful cases, including securing $200,000 in back alimony for a client in poverty and successfully changing custody for a child victim of abuse. She emphasizes the importance of collaboration with partner agencies to provide wraparound services for clients.
Michelle’s leadership is an example of resilience and dedication to justice, empowering families in need of stability and safety. Her work continues to shape the future of family law and serve as an inspiration for the community.
